What it is: Semantic Feature Analysis is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals improve their ability to name objects by identifying and describing key features of a word, such as its category, function, and appearance.

How it works: SFA strengthens the brain's semantic networks to enhance word retrieval. By breaking down words into their essential components, individuals can better access and produce the word they are struggling to recall. During sessions, people are shown a picture and asked to describe it using specific prompts like "What is it used for?" or "What category does it belong to?"

Research evidence: Studies show an 82% success rate for improvement in naming practiced words, with 58% maintaining improvements after therapy and 40% showing generalization to unpracticed words.

Best for: People with fluent aphasia types (anomic and conduction aphasia), mild to moderate aphasia, and those with Broca's aphasia for maintaining gains.

Our widget advantage: Our interactive SFA widget provides structured feature analysis with visual and auditory support, making it perfect for both objects and actions practice.
