What information we collect
Account and membership information
When you create an account or purchase a subscription, we collect your name, email address, billing information, and login activity. Account and membership data is managed through MemberPress on our WordPress site, and payments are processed by Stripe — we do not store full credit card numbers ourselves.
Email list and marketing
When you sign up for our newsletter, request a free resource, or create an account, we may add your email address (and, where you’ve provided it, your name) to our marketing list so we can send product updates, educational content, and occasional promotional emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any marketing email, or by emailing privacy@aphasiastudio.com.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share data only with the third-party service providers we use to operate Aphasia Studio:
- MemberPress — manages account creation, memberships, and login activity within our WordPress site.
- Stripe — processes subscription and one-time payments.
- Resend — delivers our transactional and marketing emails.
- Airtable — stores contact and subscriber information that we use as our customer relationship database.
- Gravatar (Automattic) — used for comment profile images, as described above.
- Automated spam detection service — visitor comments may be checked for spam.
We previously used Klaviyo for email marketing. If you were on our list during that period, your data was processed by Klaviyo at that time; we have since migrated email delivery to Resend.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For registered users, we store the personal information provided in the user profile for as long as the account remains active. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Email subscribers remain on our marketing list until they unsubscribe or request deletion. Billing records may be retained for as long as required by tax and accounting law.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
To make a request, email privacy@aphasiastudio.com from the address associated with your account or subscription.
Additional rights for California residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you additional rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the sources of that information, the purposes for collection, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to access a copy of the specific personal information we hold about you.
- Right to delete the personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions permitted by law.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Aphasia Studio does not sell your personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Right to limit the use of sensitive personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination — we will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@aphasiastudio.com. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity and will respond within 45 days as required by California law. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
Where your data is sent
Our third-party processors listed above may store and process data on servers located in the United States and other countries. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of the page. Material changes will be communicated by email or by a notice on the website.
