Practice nowThe Planning Words exercise

Who it is used with

With apraxia of speech, the word is there but the mouth will not follow the plan. Apraxia often comes with aphasia, especially:

Start on Sounds, Level 1: the same sound, repeated. Repetition is the point.

How to use it

Pick what to practise

Sounds, syllables or words, which sounds, and a level. Then tap Start practice.

Hear it, then say it

Tap Hear it for the model. Tap Say it and say it out loud. It records you.

Rate it

Hear your try, then tap Got it, Almost or Again. Again repeats the word with nothing counted. 10 tries make a set.

Modes

Pick the step on the first screen. Your recording is only for you to hear back; it is not sent anywhere.

Sounds

Single speech sounds. Pick the lips, the tongue tip or the back of the tongue, or one letter.

Syllables

Short sound pairs like "ma" and "am".

Simple Words

Short words of one syllable. Pick the starting and ending sounds.

Complex Words

Longer words of two syllables. You can pick a topic.

Ways to get through it

There is no wrong answer here. You rate your own try, and Again gives you another go.

Levels

Level 1 repeats the same item, Level 2 mixes sounds from one group, Level 3 mixes all sounds. The last level you used is highlighted.

The method behind it

Motor practice for apraxia of speech. Hear a model, copy it, and repeat it many times, building from single sounds up to words.
