Practice now — freeThe Listening exercise

Who it is used with

When spoken words rush past, understanding starts with one word at a time. Listening practice is often used with:

Start on Level 1: two pictures to choose from.

How to use it

Hear a word

It plays by itself. Tap ▶ to hear it again, or 🐢 to hear it slowly.

Tap the picture

Tap the picture that matches the word. There are no words on the pictures.

It moves on by itself

Or tap Skip; skipped words come back later in the set. After 10 words the set is done.

Modes

One mode: hear it, find it. Make it harder or easier with the level.

Hear and find

Hear a word and tap its picture, from 2 pictures on Level 1 to 4 look-alike pictures on Level 4.

Ways to get through it

When a word does not land, there is help on the card.

Hint

Shows the word's letters, one more with each tap, starting with the first letter. 🐢 plays the word slowly.

Practice with me

The exercise plays the word, then plays it slowly, gives a clue, and at the end lights up the right picture. Tap it to answer.

Levels

Free accounts practise on Level 1. With Premium, pick Level 1 to 4, or Auto, which moves you up when a set goes well.

Topics

Tap the topic button to hear words from your real life: breakfast, kitchen, clothes.

The method behind it

Auditory comprehension training. Practice understanding spoken words: hear a word and point to its picture, a task speech-language pathologists use in the clinic. Read how it works →
