The words of a sentence appear on screen, scrambled. You tap them into the right order. Because the words are provided, word-finding isn't the bottleneck — sentence structure gets all your effort.
Putting words in order is a separate job from finding them. Plenty of people with aphasia can name every word in "The dog chased the cat" and still struggle to assemble it. Word order carries the meaning — chased whom? — and aphasia can scramble exactly that. Treatments that have people actively build sentences, not just listen to them, show this skill can improve with repetition.
Finding words and arranging them are different language skills, and aphasia can affect them separately. Trouble with sentence structure despite good single words is common — and practicing sentence assembly directly targets it.
